The Royal Television Society has created a new award for this year’s Television Journalism Awards aimed at recognising the best news coverage by an independent or freelancer.
The award recognises the development of news and current affairs production which is entirely independent of broadcasters, and will be judged by a panel of jurors from both inside and outside of broadcast journalism.
Nick Pollard, Chair of The RTS Television Journalism Awards, said: “I’m delighted to announce the addition of the Independent Award this year. It allows us to recognise the delivery of outstanding news coverage by independent producers and freelancers and acknowledges the important role that they play.”
The RTS awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 24 February, 2010 at the London Hilton, Park Lane.
The closing date for entries is 27 November.
